atlanta-cupcake-factory-jess

Ok tourists, the Atlanta tour continues with a trip to the Atlanta Cupcake Factory.  First off, “factory” has GOT to be the most ridiulous name for this charming teeny-tiny little wee itsy bitsy cupcake bakery.  Secondly, this was my favorite bakery I visited in Atlanta, but you’ll have to stay tuned to see the results of the family taste-test.  I know, you can’t stand the suspense.

ACF is located on North Highland nestled among some really cool shops including a super-cool vintage emporium and a boutique specializing in neato mosquito handmade crafts and prints, Young Blood.

The girl that helped us is named Jess and she is the vegan baker on staff (that’s her on the photos!).  They also recently started doing vegan cupcakes on the weekends.  In fact, her goodies were recently mentioned in one of her (and my) favorite magazines, ReadyMade.  Congratulations Jess!

I bought a ton of cupcakes to take and share with the family at cousin Stewart’s house including lemon, strawberry, chipotle chocolate, vegan chocolate-peanut butter, lime coconut, and more.  They were delicious!!!  Also, the customer service was exceptional.  Jess was super-friendly and welcoming and helped me choose some good choices by making sure I had a nice assortment of flavors and letting me know some of their most popular ones.  She was enthusiastic about the business, said she loves working there, and told us all about the mention in ReadyMade.  I felt so welcome and like I’d just made another bakery friend.  Thanks for the warm welcome!

alons

So I got to go to Atlanta for this family reunion to celebrate my cousin-in-law’s birthday.  Firstly, I want to thank Elizabeth, the Muddy’s manager.  I wasn’t going to get to go, but on Friday evening Elizabeth was like, “no no, you should go!  I’ll work for you tomorrow, no worries!” and sent me on my way.

While Mom and I were in Atlanta, we HAD to go visit a few bakeries OF COURSE and I’ll be publishing our findings here on the blog.  Woohoo!

First stop was Alon’s on North Highland.
This place is a bakery slash market slash restaurant and was quite bustling with activity.  There were custard tarts and things that looked pretty tasty, but since this was the first stop I had to get stuff that was going to hold up in the car!  I got an assortment of mini-cookies (double chocolate, Mexican wedding, oatmeal, sable, etc) and the sables were pretty good (but not as good as my dad’s!) and the double-chocolate were awesome.  I also got a ginger scone that was delicious!

The breads seemed to be a big part of their business, especially since they baked their own bread for the sandwiches which is a huge part of their business.  I got a goat cheese-eggplant-spinach sandwich that was yummers.
