leaving, on a jet plane…

katieTaste the tears of sadness!  Our summer intern has left us to go back to college.  We will miss Katie’s sweet smile, badass icing skillz, and awesome tunes.

Katie was one of our first regular customers (last year,  she and her friends would come over after school, before nights out, and even before prom!) and she’s even pictured in the article that was in Midsouth Magazine last spring.  She’s been a total joy to have around the bakery and she’ll definitely be missed by us all.  We hope she has a great semester at Sarah Lawrence and we ESPECIALLY hope she’ll be back with us over the Christmas season!

Best of luck, Katie!!!

my stalker moment

tee no subs backOk, I wasn’t stalking anyone, BUT I did see someone wearing a Muddy’s No Substitutions tee shirt!  Out in public!  Yay!!!

I kind of wanted to take a picture, but then figured that really would be stalkerish and a little creepster, so I didn’t.  I also wanted to go hug her, but she was on the phone in what looked like a pretty funny/intense conversation and it would’ve been rude to grab her from behind.

But, to the blonde in the Muddy’s shirt… THANKS!!!  It made my whole day!!!

(this photo is for visual interest so you’ll see what shirt I mean… it’s not her.  It’s me. Doiy.)

muddy’s field trip: julie & julia

julie-and-julia1Ooooh, what fun!  Sarah organized an outing for the gang to the Malco Paradiso this afternoon for the 1pm show of Julie & Julia.  It was so much fun!

Sarah’s mom and sister joined us, as did Tammy’s husband and Katie’s mom.  The movie was full of color and fun; Meryl Streep really captured Julia Child’s larger-than-life bon vivant and the movie was so visual.  At one point Amy Adams’ character whips together a raspberry cream pie and the whole row of us let out a huge sigh.  Such a Muddy’s moment!

The movie was lots of fun, especially the Julia Child parts.  Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci both did such an excellent job!  Many thanks to our own Sarah for getting this together!

roto-rooter to the rescue

Well, it’s midnight at the bakery and I’m still here… waiting while our toilet gets worked on.  I still maintain that I have the best career in the entire world, but I’ll also admit that sometimes people really try my patience.

Earlier this evening, I was frantically making cupcakes (if you came by the bakery today, you know it was slammed all day!) and noticed a lot of giggling coming from the bathroom.  A few seconds later several girls emerged, laughing and smirking, and made a quick exit from the shop.  I also noticed that they were wearing tee shirts from a well known private school and honestly I would have expected better from them.

Anyway, I thought they had probably written profanities on the “thank you” wall or some other mischief and resolved to check it out when I had a minute.  Not ten minutes later, a lady let us know that when she flushed the toilet the water started pouring out.  I tested it again and sure enough, water water everywhere…

So, I had to call the 24 hour Roto-Rooter, turn customers away from using the bathroom, wait here long after closing on my Saturday night for it to be fixed, and pay $139 to get out a carefully rolled wad of paper towel…as the Roto-Rooter man just informed me, “I see this all the time and it definitely wasn’t an accident.”

Anyway, felt like sharing.  I’m sure everyone, especially in retail, has horror stories.  I just really am disappointed in these girls.  :(
