The bumper sticker design contest was a huge hit and y’all have loved the stickers, so this time we’re doing tee shirts. We are almost sold out of our most recent limited edition tee (lumberjacks!) so it’s time to design something new.
The theme: Muddy’s loves Memphis!
The deadline: midnight September 30
The prize: 3 tees, 2 dozen cupcakes, 1 pie, and mad bragging rights
The rules:
- all designs become the property of Muddy’s Bake Shop, LLC and by submitting a design you’re giving us permission to use it, duh!
- submissions must be your own creation ’cause plagiarism just aint’ cool.
- there’s no limit to the number of designs you can submit. If you have ten great ideas, submit ten great designs!
- email your submissions to eat(at)muddysbakeshop(dot)com We will accept the following formats: vectorized image, PDF, Photoshop, jpeg.
- let us know which color shirt you’d like the design printed on (if you don’t have a preference, let us know that too)- do NOT make a background color in the image.
- we welcome submissions from all customers regardless of age or artistic inclination, however if you are under 18 please let us know as you’ll need a guardian’s permission.
If you need help designing, check out you tube for tutorial videos (like this one!) and happy designing!
Hints that may help you win:
-overly cutesy fonts make people go “ew”
-we’re not just cupcakes
-we love Memphis!

[...] a good job designing the stickers for Muddy’s Bakeshop that they’ve decided to have a design contest for their new t-shirts. Anyone can enter, and you can submit as many designs as you’d like. The winner gets their [...]
Yay! Except that the design becomes your property -
the artist should really keep their copyright.
Lily-
We thought about that, but our attorney advised us that there’s the least liability in this avenue as we need to be able to reproduce and sell it and wish to avoid lengthy contract agreements for both parties.
Just a straight up submission.

Sure, it’s easiest & best for you but worst for the artist. It makes me sad that small businesses like yours don’t respect the rights of artists
Artists should NEVER give away their copyright. Ever. And usually, if they do agree to do it, they’d be paid around $6000 for a design like that!
Lily- It’s a contest that has the same rules and regulations as most similar contests. A reward is offered and it’s totally up to the individual whether to participate or not… it’s for FUN. This kind of thing is ideal for people who just want to play or even want to just get their name out there. We’re up front about what we’re doing and leave it up to you. It’s totally cool that you don’t want to play; believe me, we’re not twisting anyone’s arm here.
No, you’re not twisting anyone’s arm, but you’re not showing any integrity either.
I will be submitting a few designs for this contest and am very excited about it
I work full time as a graphic artist and I see nothing wrong with the way this contest has been set up. To me, this is something FUN to do in my free time when I’m at home, bored, and feeling creative.
I do have one question. Would an artist be able to put the design in one’s personal portfolio to be able to say “Hey, I did this.” ?
Thanks Kendra! As for portfolio- YES! We will also include the artist’s name in the blog post, product listing online, etc for the tee and will happily link to his or her website, whatever. If someone takes the time to enter and wins, we want to toot their horn all over the place! It’s mutual luuuuv.
