DIY: baking soda storage

Here is a small kitchen tip that packs a big bang!

I have no idea why manufacturers make baking powder containers have the little leveling lip and not baking soda containers, but whatever.  You can create your own handy-dandy baking soda can… from an empty baking powder one!  Rinse out your baking powder can and dry it well.  Wrap decorative paper, wallpaper, or just a plain old boring label around it and label is “baking soda”.  Pour the soda in.  Voila!

If you don’t have a used baking powder can and you won’t have one for awhile, you can modify your current baking soda can by taping dental floss across the top.  When you scoop the soda, just swipe it under the floss to get an even measurement.  Yay!

I used wallpaper scrap and a cute Martha Stewart sticky label from her scrapbooking materials collection.

  1. Great idea. I use Bob’s Redmill baking soda that comes in an annoying unresealable plastic bag. I have have it sealed with a binder clip now. You’re using aluminum-free baking powder right? :)
