March featured nonprofit is Harwood Center

Featured Nonprofit: Harwood Center

We are so excited to have Harwood Center as the non-profit recipient of our Positive Change Jar for March! Harwood Center is an early intervention agency for children with special needs. Their mission is to enable children with special developmental needs to reach their full potential, and they strive to be the Mid-South’s leading educational and therapeutic resource for young children with special developmental needs and their families.

Harwood Center is one of the few agencies in Shelby County and the surrounding areas with both specialized preschool and therapy programs for young children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Currently, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 1 in 68 children will be diagnosed with autism. At Harwood Center, a team led by a board-certified behavior analyst, licensed special education teachers, educational specialists, and behavior technicians, is trained to develop specialized and individualized intervention programs for children diagnosed with autism.

Services for children at Harwood Center include Applied Behavior Analysis classrooms, behavior therapy, and consultative sessions. They have locations in Cordova, Orange Mound, and Raleigh/Frayser.

At Muddy’s, we don’t accept tips for our service or charge for drip coffee refills; we believe in thriveable wages for great work and we fundraise for local nonprofits through our "Refill Our Community With Positive Change" jar. Each month our staff selects a Memphis non-profit organization, and 100% of those community funds go to support their mission.

This month will be donated to Harwood Center. Learn more about them here.

You can participate by, of course, throwing some change in the jar, but also by nominating a nonprofit that's making a difference in our community!
