Thanks to East Memphis shop manager Annabeth Barnes for penning this post!
You've seen this book on our shelves here at Muddy's Bake Shop, and you may have even enjoyed its yum-azing eye candy with a thumb through or two while waiting in line. Even so, we have a feeling you may not know what this book is all about. An ode to every Memphian’s favorite weekend social plan, Feeding Memphis highlights the backstory of the best in town, but is focused on the heart of the Midsouth, our neighbors. The spirit that Mike Glasgow captures is the grit that it took for every business to fight for its place in the Memphis food scene while providing quality food and experiences.
Back in 2014, author Mike Glasgow wanted to highlight the local fare as well as the overwhelming reality of food insecurity in homes across the Midsouth. He decided that he wanted to make an impact and donate $10 for every copy of Feeding Memphis purchased. To date, Feeding Memphis has provided over $10,000, roughly 30,000 meals, to the Mid-South Food Bank to aid against food insecurity. As a Memphis transplant, I have quickly learned that Memphians pride themselves on supporting local business, artists, and nonprofits, so what better way to show your love than the perfect coffee table book featuring local restaurateurs and gives back $10 for every copy purchased?
Not only does it include recipes so you can cook through it with friends or family, but you can also use it as a gift accompanying gift cards to the highlighted fares. What better gift for upcoming Mother’s Day and/or Father’s Day? I also love to see it used as a sign in book for wedding receptions and showers as a way to congratulate the new couple. Regardless if you gift it or make it an elegant addition to your coffee table, make sure to share the backstory and the contribution you are making to our greater community.
Kudos Memphis for your support and Mike for doing your part to help our neighbors! Find Feeding Memphis at both our Midtown and East Memphis shops, and check out what all the Mid-South Food Bank is doing to help our community HERE.
