Muddy’s Journal

muddy's vanilla extract now in stores! plus a yum-azing brandy milk punch recipe

Say hello to the latest from Muddy's kitchen. It's something a little different but every bit as tasty as what you've come to expect from us gnomies: allow me to introduce Muddy's Vanilla Extract. It's been a long time in the making (brewed about three months to be precise), but it's finally bottled and ready just in time to complete the stockings of every baker on your list this year. It's not hard to find either: you will see it on the shelves of both Muddy's locations (while supplies last). Huzzah!

We make Muddy's Vanilla Extract in small batches here in our kitchen with organic vanilla beans from Singing Dog, the makers of the organic vanilla extract we use in all our baked goods. We steep those beans in quality Kentucky bourbon until the smell and flavor are just right, and voila! The result is an earthy-sweet and creamy bourbon vanilla flavor perfect for cookies, cakes, cocktails, and anything else you can think of to spike with a little decadence.

That's right, I said cocktails. Our favorite we've tried so far is Brandy Milk Punch, a New Orleans alternative to egg nog perfect for Christmas brunch, a little something different for your holiday party, or a simple after dinner treat to accompany your next Netflix and gift wrapping session. This recipe comes from the kitchen/bar of Kip, our manager of awesome operations here at Muddy's Bake Shop. Thanks, Kip!

Brandy Milk Punch

4 ounces whole milk
3 ounces half & half
2 ounces Brandy
dash of Muddy's Vanilla
1 teaspoon sugar

Combine ingredients in cocktail shaker with ice cubes and shake gently. Once you think things are incorporated, give it a few really vigorous shakes to froth a bit of the milk. Strain into a double rocks glass (you may need to jiggle the shaker really well to get the frothy bits out). Top with a little sprinkling of nutmeg (fresh ground is always best) and enjoy this lovely holiday delight!
